While districts are increasingly looking to reduce expulsions, there are times when expulsion is the appropriate method to deal with a student discipline matter. From beginning administrators to veteran educational leaders, the world of expulsions is full of avoidable landmines that have the potential to cause an expulsion to be unsuccessful or to be overturned on appeal. This presentation will examine several key areas, including: basic expulsion timelines and procedures, recommendation procedures, investigating, preparing and prosecuting an expulsion matter, and administrative panels.
