Participants in this workshop will learn about prevention-focused, non-punitive school climate strategies that – when implemented with fidelity – reduce and eliminate racial dis proportionality in school discipline, engage all students, and improve life outcomes. The workshop will also highlight local school and district examples where students are leading their peers to successfully transform school culture. Participants will receive a free copy of Public Counsel’s Fix School Discipline Toolkit, a comprehensive school climate guide that includes overviews of evidence based frameworks – such as restorative practices, school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports, social emotional learning, and trauma-informed strategies – tools for implementation, and case studies of schools/districts at varying stages of implementation.
